The Formula 3 Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps was dramatically disrupted on Sunday morning due to severe weather conditions. Torrential rainfall caused the race to be red-flagged twice and ultimately abandoned without any competitive laps being completed. The event began behind the Safety Car in hopes of managing the challenging track conditions, but the persistent rain quickly rendered the circuit unsafe for racing.
Early into the event, James Hedley of AIX Racing lost control at the notorious Eau Rouge corner due to aquaplaning, though he managed to return his car to the pit lane. Shortly afterward, Brando Badoer made contact with Tim Tramnitz on the Kemmel Straight, which forced both drivers out of contention. The incident prompted the first red flag as track marshals worked to clear the damaged cars and restore safety.
Once the race resumed under the Safety Car, conditions continued to deteriorate. Campos Racing teammates Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak and Nikola Tsolov were involved in a near-miss between Turns 7 and 8. Inthraphuvasak spun in an attempt to avoid contact, requiring another car recovery operation. This led to a second red flag, and after a brief wait, Race Control officially announced the decision not to resume the race.
With no green-flag racing laps completed, the FIA confirmed that no championship points would be awarded for the event. As a result, Rafael Camara retained his 28-point lead over Nikola Tsolov in the drivers’ standings, with totals of 126 and 98 points respectively. The series now turns its attention to the next round in Budapest.
This abrupt halt highlights the unpredictable nature of racing at Spa, a track notorious for its changeable weather. While disappointing for fans and drivers alike, safety took top priority in Race Control’s decision. The F3 paddock will now regroup and prepare for more stable conditions at the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.
