Liam Lawson is still coming to terms with his unexpected demotion from Red Bull Racing after just two races in the 2025 Formula 1 season. The New Zealander was swapped out for Yuki Tsunoda following underwhelming performances in Australia and China. Despite the shake-up, Lawson has emphasized that his confidence has not been shaken, and he remains focused on improving his results with Racing Bulls.
Reflecting on the early-season events, Lawson admitted that he hasn’t fully processed everything yet. He pointed out that the hectic race schedule leaves little time to mentally absorb the transitions. With the summer break approaching, he sees that period as an opportunity to reflect. Until then, he’s keeping his head down, thinking ahead to races in Belgium and Hungary.
His short-lived Red Bull stint was marked by difficulties, including a crash and poor qualifying results. After failing to score points in his debut races, Red Bull executives met in Dubai and quickly decided to replace him. Lawson, however, insists the abrupt exit didn’t damage his self-belief. He argued that two races at unfamiliar circuits weren’t a fair measure of his potential.
Now driving for Racing Bulls, Lawson is eager to find rhythm and consistency. The atmosphere at the team appears to suit him better, and he’s focused on maximizing every opportunity in the remaining races. He acknowledges how mentally draining the season has been, especially with triple-headers leaving no time to reset between events.
Looking back, Lawson is stunned at how quickly the year has progressed. “The year has just gone,” he said, describing how the intensity of Formula 1 makes time feel like a blur. As he approaches the season’s second half, Lawson is determined to make the most of it — proving he belongs on the grid despite the early setbacks.
