Alex Albon has shed light on what makes Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso stand out as two of the most exceptional Formula 1 champions of their generation. According to him, there is a defining quality that both drivers share, which has propelled them to achieve remarkable success in the sport.
Max Verstappen is currently chasing a historic fifth consecutive drivers’ championship, showcasing his dominance over recent seasons. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso, one of the most experienced drivers in F1 history, is still competing at the highest level in his 22nd season. With 416 Grand Prix starts to his name, Alonso continues to build on his legendary career, demonstrating his unyielding passion for racing.
The 2025 championship, however, is proving to be a challenge for Verstappen. The McLaren MCL39 has shown superior performance this season, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris leading the title fight. While some, like James Allen, believe Verstappen has the edge over Norris, Piastri has emerged as a tougher competitor, holding firm as the championship leader.
Alonso, on the other hand, remains relentless in his quest for a third world title. Despite his age and long career, the Spanish driver shows no signs of slowing down. His determination and consistency continue to make him a threat to younger rivals, proving that experience still counts for much in modern F1.
Looking ahead, Alonso’s chances could improve significantly. He is contracted with Aston Martin until the end of 2026, and with engineering genius Adrian Newey spearheading next year’s car development, Alonso’s dream of adding another championship to his illustrious career might soon become a reality.
