Fernando Alonso is feeling increasingly confident about Aston Martin’s trajectory heading into 2026. After a series of successful car upgrades in 2025, the two-time World Champion highlighted that the team now has faith in the development tools within their factory—something he admits was missing in previous seasons. This renewed trust, he believes, lays a solid foundation for next year’s car under the upcoming technical regulations.
The Silverstone-based outfit endured a rough start to the current campaign, but things began to shift during the European triple header. With new updates introduced, Aston Martin consistently returned to the points, signaling that their development path was finally paying off. Alonso acknowledged that this progress has restored belief in their ability to transfer factory innovations effectively onto the track.
Speaking at Monza, the Spaniard emphasized how crucial it is for the team to once again have a reliable link between simulations and real-world performance. “It’s encouraging to see upgrades behave exactly as expected,” he explained, noting that in both 2023 and 2024, the correlation between data and results had been a weak point. Now, he feels assured that Aston Martin can approach the 2026 car with far greater confidence.
Despite suffering a suspension-related retirement in Italy, with teammate Lance Stroll also finishing outside the points, Alonso hasn’t lost faith in the races ahead. He sees circuits like Singapore and Brazil as potential opportunities, drawing comparisons with tracks such as Budapest and Zandvoort where Aston Martin performed strongly. However, he remains cautious, stressing that surprises—both good and bad—are always part of the sport.
Currently, Aston Martin sit sixth in the Constructors’ Championship with 62 points, narrowly ahead of Racing Bulls by just a single point. With eight races left on the calendar, Alonso insists the team will continue pushing hard at every event rather than pinning their hopes on specific venues. For him, the focus is on consistent effort until the season finale in Abu Dhabi, where their final standing will reveal just how far the team has come.
