Aston Martin has reportedly severed ties with Sky Sports Germany after rising tensions came to light during the Hungarian Grand Prix. The friction was disclosed by former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher, who admitted on-air that his attempts to engage with the team were rebuffed. Schumacher candidly remarked, “They’re not giving us interviews because they don’t like us much at the moment,” confirming the apparent blackout.
His colleague Peter Hardenacke hinted at the root cause, suggesting the broadcaster’s criticism of Aston Martin triggered the freeze. Schumacher himself has been vocal this season, questioning the team’s car performance and condemning Lance Stroll’s expletive-filled radio rant at Silverstone. Reports from German outlet BILD claim Aston Martin also resented Sky’s perceived lack of interest during other official events, such as press briefings, further souring relations.
Despite the off-track drama, Aston Martin delivered one of their strongest weekends of 2025, with Fernando Alonso finishing fifth and Stroll seventh at Hungaroring. Their combined effort lifted the team’s morale heading into the summer break, as Alonso celebrated the “perfect execution” of strategy and tyre management that netted 16 crucial points.
Formula 1 now enters a short hiatus before resuming at Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix later this month. While Aston Martin enjoys a competitive upswing and plots its future resurgence, questions linger over whether its standoff with Sky will remain an isolated protest—or escalate into a broader statement about media relationships in the sport.
