Formula 1 driver Gabriel Bortoleto was rushed to the medical centre after a horrific crash during the Brazilian Grand Prix sprint. The Stake F1 driver lost control of his car, spinning into the barrier on one side of the track before going airborne and narrowly missing Williams star Alex Albon. Bortoleto, fortunately, managed to get out of his car and into the medical car by himself, with the team confirming he was okay.
The incident caused the sprint to be red-flagged, with the race resuming around 30 minutes later. Lando Norris managed to secure maximum points, holding off Kimi Antonelli to take the win. Norris now leads the championship by nine points over Oscar Piastri, who crashed into the barriers on Lap 6.
Bortoleto was taken to the circuit’s Medical Centre as a precaution, with the team releasing a statement saying he was okay. The incident was a reminder of the risks involved in Formula 1, and the safety measures in place to protect drivers.
Norris hailed his win as “one of those ones where you have to push, because you know the guy behind will push behind a bit more.” He added, “It was sketchy! Even with the wind and the degradation on the tyres, it was difficult.” The win extends Norris’s lead in the championship, putting pressure on Piastri and other contenders.
The Brazilian GP has shaken up the championship standings, with Norris now nine points clear of Piastri. The two McLaren drivers will be hoping to secure the drivers’ title, with the team also in contention for the constructors’ championship. The next round will see the field head to Las Vegas for the final two races of the season.
