Oscar Piastri has reflected on his progression from last season to the current Formula 1 campaign, revealing that his main priority for the rest of the year is to limit errors. The Australian star currently sits at the top of the drivers’ standings, holding a nine-point advantage over McLaren teammate Lando Norris, having already claimed six grand prix victories in 2025.
Speaking to F1.com, Piastri said he has been making gradual gains across multiple aspects of his performance. He noted that in 2024, while he had weekends strong enough to challenge for wins, there were also several mediocre or poor outings. In contrast, this season has brought a far greater share of strong performances, with the young driver able to consistently reach the level he believes he is capable of delivering.
He explained that this improvement is not down to one single factor but rather a combination of refinements in many areas. By addressing multiple small details, Piastri has found himself executing at his highest level more regularly. That, he believes, has been the most significant difference in his results this year compared to last.
The battle for the title between Piastri and Norris is intensifying, but the 24-year-old has shown remarkable composure under pressure. He stressed that the formula for winning races at the end of the season is no different from the start — staying faster than rivals while making as few mistakes as possible. Consistency is key, he said, but it must be matched with outright pace, as simply avoiding errors without speed will not secure a championship.
Piastri acknowledged the human element in racing, admitting perfection is unattainable. While striving for minimal mistakes is crucial, so too is maintaining aggressive speed. A cautious approach, he warned, could lead to being overtaken in the standings. For him, success in the championship fight will depend on finding the right balance between pace and precision.
